About Me
When I was ten years old, I built my first computer with the help of my father. From that moment, I was captivated by all things technological. Not just by how systems functioned, but by the stories they could be used to tell. Games like Theme Hospital and Zoo Tycoon filled me with joy and creative energy, and I thrived on designing the most efficient, engaging experiences I could within their virtual worlds. After attempting several unfulfilling career paths, I decided to follow my aspirations and undertook a BSc in Information Technology, which I completed with First Class Honours. It was during my dissertation that my passion for the games industry deepened and shifted toward critical engagement. I focused on the word "woke" and how it is often weaponised as a smokescreen for modern day homophobia, transphobia, racism, and sexism within gaming communities and culture. Applying Lauren Berlant’s theory of Cruel Optimism, I explored how players’ emotional investments and deep rooted nostalgia, can clash with the evolving nature of inclusive storytelling and representation in games. This research lit a fire in me. I no longer just wanted to enjoy games; I wanted to contribute to the industry, to help shape it into something more reflective of the diverse world we live in. My goal is to help tell stories that embrace different identities, experiences, and voices. It isn’t about being “woke”; it is about being human, and designing worlds that welcome everyone.
Alongside my academic studies, I have developed a strong technical foundation in tools and languages essential to modern game development. I have experience with Blender and Maya for 3D modelling and animation, as well as both C++ and Blueprints within Unreal Engine 5 for interactive environment and gameplay design. My coding skills also include Python and C#, which have supported my understanding of scripting and systems logic. With this knowledge, I want to explore every angle of the game development pipeline, from mechanics and narrative design to user experience and production workflows. I want to deepen not just my technical expertise, but also my ability to design games that are meaningful, inclusive, and socially relevant.
